Beginning with the Best Pose

Alexandra Salas

Svanasana, or "corpse" pose, where you lie on your back is said to be the most relaxing and restorative pose. For people with lower back issues, the pose takes a bit of adjusting such as bending the knees or tilting the pelvic area up to eliminate space between the lower back and the mat or silk, if you are practicing aerial yoga. The use of blocks or a bolster to support and cushion can also help with alignment and access to a comfortable resting pose. Nevertheless, once the sweet reclined spot is secured, repose is blissfully relaxing. Try it as often as you can.
